Take My Side
© Anne Sumner 2015
He said his name was love
He introduced himself and sat down at my table
Strangely familiar
And for two years we would meet
And he would sit across from me
And ask me "What's the kind of love you think you need?"
And I looked him in the eye
And told him "I reserve my right
To have my doubts when people love too easily
Too easily"
Since you've arrived
To teach me that I'm alright
If love is built to last
There's no such thing as wasted time
I've been tryin'
To make up my mind
It doesn't really matter if you take my side
If I don't
We say our prayers at night
But in the dark they say that no-one comes to save you
We live by candlelight
And I don't care to admit I wish that I shared his conviction
There was something he could find in here to love
And all he ever said was "You're amazing, don't forget
And try to find that voice within you you can trust
You can trust"
Since you've arrived
To teach me that I'm alright
If love is built to last
There's no such thing as wasted time
I've been tryin'
To make up my mind
It doesn't really matter if you take my side
If I don't
And I've been here in the wings
Waiting to love you
If love isn't everything
What are you holding out for?
What are you holding out for?
Since you've arrived
To teach me that I'm alright
If love is built to last
There's no such thing as wasted time
I've been tryin'
To make up my mind
It doesn't really matter if you take my side
If I don't
It doesn't really matter if you take my side
If I don't
