Some Kind of Comfort
© Anne Sumner 2016
The clouds were gathering westwards
as the sun was on its way down
You need a place to get restless
A way to breathe in this tired town
And I have this devotion
Call your name in my dreams
You're so unaware of
The effect that you're having on me
So I hesitate
As I'm walking the steps to your door
There's so many mistakes I've been doing my best to avoid
Far be it from me to spirit your troubles away
And offer you some kind of comfort at the end of your day
The moon on the rising, the wolves on the run
There's no use in denying that you're aching for someone
And I wanted to hold you, let your aching pass to me
But I don't know what you're used to, or how to give you the care you need
So I hesitate as I'm walking the steps to your door
There's so many mistakes I've been doing my best to avoid
Far be it from me to spirit your troubles away
And offer you some kind of comfort at the end of your day
There are things I could do in an instant, and things that might work for a while
And things I might end up regretting 'cause they just didn't feel right
And sometimes I'm overly cautious, 'cause sometimes you're so hard to read
I sometimes think it would destry me to not be the one you need
So I hesitate as I'm walking the steps to your door
There's so many mistakes I've been doing my best to avoid
Far be it from me to spirit your troubles away
And offer you some kind of comfort at the end of your day
Now hearts they get broken, and days they get hard
And from nightmares we're woken to realities just as dark
And I can't change the story, or say how it ends
But whenever you call me I'll be walking your steps again
So I hesitate as I'm walking the steps to your door
There's so many mistakes I've been doing my best to avoid
Far be it from me to spirit your troubles away
And offer you some kind of comfort at the end of your day
