Last Summer

© Anne Sumner 2016

See the sunrise on the hill
See the trees all standing still
Feel the shadows of the clouds as they come to rest
Through the fields I came and went
Never knew quite what it meant
Heard you calling in the rain coming down
Barefoot in the grass I slept

And last summer this was all in my head
And I've been wanting to take you there

I've been floating in the deep
Believe in things I cannot see
Call me crazy but I knew you were on your way
I was where you're standing now
Sat and watched the world go round
Feeling hopeful for the light that was breaking through
While I was breaking out

And last summer this was all in my head
And I've been wanting to take you there

And I've been waiting for the chance to let you in
Way before I ever knew you you were here under my skin
And we grow closer with the turning of the years
And it's good to have you here where you belong

The way it's always seemed to me
Life leads us where we need to be
Feeling thankful for the force that has brought us here
And as it turns out here we are
Never thought I'd see so far
Kept believing even though this was not a love
I'd ever known before

And last summer this was all in my head
And I've been wanting to take you there
And last summer this was all in my head
And I've been wanting to take you there
To take you there
I've been wanting to take you there
To take you there
I've been wanting to take you there
