Bound

Stories start as they often will
With an eager hand to turn the page
He couldn’t be what he claimed to feel
But I loved him too much to walk away
And I was here hoping he’d
Come to his senses but it wasn’t meant to be
And we are built from tears
Made to fly
So I forgave him like I’d never had to try
And time was against me
I could have sensed he’d maybe meant for me to feel
Like he was with me all along
As if there’s meaning in the the things that we’d forgone

Sometimes sweeter than fantasy
Was the price I’d pay to close the deal
I’d give all our dreams of what might have been
For a little taste of what was real
And I was here, caught off-guard
And I’ve been lost before but never quite this far
And we are built from tears
Made to fly
So I forgave him like I knew his reasons why
And time was against me
I could have sensed he’d maybe meant for me to feel
Like he was with me all along
And so I learned to make a way out on my own

I always thought when you looked for love
It would show its face in the light
For all the times that it was obvious
There were so many more when it was not
And I was here left to deal
With a mind that wouldn’t quieten
And a heart that couldn’t heal
And we are built from tears
Made to fly
So I forgave him for the years he’d let slip by
And time was against me
I could have sensed he’d maybe meant for me to feel
Like he was with me all along
As if whatever keeps us bound is just that strong
